Ahyes, I think that one might be a co-incidence but I’m looking forward to chasing up the novel.

I remember the ascii file and story around the release, it’s a topic I’ll end up writing about when I catch up with some of the earliest tweets about TAMTW (I’m working my way though all the tweets backwards).

Ok but don’t make fun of me! I know it’s a bit farfetched but as I said, I was so obsessed with this whole deal that I couldn’t not see it. Still do, even if I realize this is probably just me spending too much time on this! If you read the novel maybe you’ll understand. Or maybe you’d better not, I don’t know.

I’m not sure what you’re seeing in the These Are My Twisted Words artwork – any chance of a screenshot?

If nothing else I think Hunting Mews is all about synchronicity in that the more you look the more you find. Trick is figuring out what’s intentional and what’s coincidental.

Like many others before me, I too had noticed the references to the Crying of Lot 49.

I (would) like (to stress) the fact that the novel’s two main themes are :

1) a story about someone who investigates whether a story is true and has to investigate whether other, parallel stories could be true. Encapsulated stories in which questions are always answered with more questions. The main story builds up a collection of hints, clues and vaguely relevant anecdotes that allow us to see “the bigger picture”, supposed there actually is one; is there really a conspiracy or a secret society (W.A.S.T.E.) at work? The investigation is very russian dolls-like in itself, so for Radiohead to evoke it and play with it is very meta and intriguing. Could the story have leapt into reality somehow?

2) synchronicity and/or apophenia, or the ability to find meaningful patterns when there might actually be none. This is delving into the very structure of belief and the thin line between excessive logical reasoning and madness. I think that famous Jim Carey movie ‘The Number 23′ illustrates how, most of the time, whether you want to find a way to prove your beliefs through ‘concrete evidence’ completely determines whether or not you find and see it as such, since you subconsciously put yourself up to the task, chances are low that it might mean anything to anyone but you…

At some point I got so obsessed about it that I found the drawing of the famous W.A.S.T.E. secret sign — the muted horn post — hidden in the ASCII text from the WHAT.CD archive file that released (leaked) ‘These Are My Twisted Words’.
Even now as I speak, I had to check if I still had it in print… and I still see that horn!

i find it curiously interesting that both ideas fit with his location. im sure he was referring to the ‘off the beaten trail’ meaning but it is just weird and kinda eerie that the map used on that website is of grid form.
ya just gotta love mews.

It’s certainly possible! Off the grid also refers to being ‘off the beaten trail’, ‘off the map’ etc.etc.

since i am a professional “crackpot” i was thinking about the website http://www.followthemaround.com and how the map is in “grid”form. radiohead ending the first leg (limb) of the tour could be percieved as them not being on the grid form map for that site.
(told ya i was a “crackpot”)
what do you all think?
