@ChieftanMews Running amok near undisclosed location – gut scratching, waiting for bodysnatchin – cos’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2UhvN0k74w

After months of non-activity on Twitter Chieftan Mews returned for a brief tweet that was deleted within the hour but not before being retweeted by @MeToSpeak (thanks heaps!).
The Youtube link is to a video of R.E.M performing ‘It’s The End of The World As We Know It’

He also updated his Twitter cover to show a previously unpublished Stanley Donwood tree sketch

While at first glance to be just about Atoms for Peace the tweet is a satire of a recent hoax regarding Jonny Greenwood and the band heading to Brazil to await the end of the world.

On December 14th Jonny Greenwood posted the following to Dead Air Space:

In Sydney with the ACO

Just a few weeks left of the residency with the australian chamber orchestra – who are amazing. Hope the resulting music is worth all the trust they’ve put in me. Thanks, gut-scratchers….

The link takes you to a feature by NASA titled ‘Beyond 2012: Why the World Won’t End’ which was the summery of a Google+ Hangout with NASA on the 28th of November focused on disproving 2012 doomsday predictions.

The post is a response to a story run by The Daily Mail (The Newspaper..not the song) on the 13th reporting that Radiohead’s management had been forced to deny claims that Jonny Greenwood was in Brazil to await the end of the world.

Radiohead guitarist forced to deny hiding out at Brazilian hotel ‘waiting for Mayan prediction that the world will end’

Representatives of Radiohead today denied local media reports that the band’s guitarist Jonny Greenwood is hiding out in a rural Brazilian hotel to ‘wait for the end of the world’.

The hoax originated with local São Paulo newspaper Folha who co-incidentally happened to put the story up at 12/12/2012 – 12h12 either as a joke or a publicity stunt.

Chieftan describes himself as ‘Running amok near undisclosed location’

AMOK is the title of the upcoming Atoms for Peace album to be released on the 25th of February 2013.

The cover and videoclip for the debut single Default features the Lost Angeles artwork by Stanley Donwood.

Wiki provides the following meaning of the phrase ‘ Running Amok’

Running amok, sometimes referred to as simply amok[1] (also spelled amuk, from the Malay meaning “mad with uncontrollable rage”) is a term for a killing spree perpetrated by an individual out of rage or resentment over perceived mistreatment. The syndrome of “Amok” is found in the DSM-IV TR.[2] The phrase is often used in a less serious manner in relation to someone or something that is out of control and causing trouble (e.g., a dog tearing up the living room furniture might be said to be running amok)

Bodysnatchin is a reference to Bodysnatchers, a song from In Rainbows.

With the Radiohead tour over for the year there is hope for a Atoms for Peace and/or Ultraista tour next year.. assuming Cheiftan Mews is wrong about it being the end of the world of course!

One of two links to Youtube Chieftan Mews sent out on the same day both linked Youtube videos of BBC Test Card F titled ‘BBC Test Card F (1978)’.

“The time now very nearly 3 o clock, the next program on bbc1 Songs of Praise follows at 3.15 after a trade test transmission…”

A Youtube commenter names the piece of music as ‘Finally, swing-time’ by Pit Fontana’s New Sound. According to TestcardCircle.uk that song was used during the 2nd half of 1978 to early 1979.

Mew’s tweeted a 2nd Testcard after this one ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6SmOBxP9-g ; Test 2 ), however the second tweet was not deleted until the 20th of March 2012. You can read more about it, and the history of Test Card F here.

Songs of Praise is a weekly religious program first broadcast in 1961 early on Sunday mornings. Consisting of church hymn’s it still runs today and is broadcast in a number of countries.

In 2007 Adam Buxton uploaded a parody of Songs of Praise providing his own subtitles to the program with amusing results:

Adam Buxton is British DJ and Comedian who in 2007 helped Radiohead with their Thumbs_Down webcast to celebrate the release of In Rainbows.

A fan of the band he wrote a nice long detailed blog post about the whole thing here on his website, and later in 2008 entered his own (rather hilarious) remix for the Reckoner remix competition:

Adam Buxton Reckoner Remix

On the 29th of November 2011 Adam Buxton ran a live BUG Music Video’s special evening focusing on Radiohead’s career, during which he screened some behind the scenes footage of the recording of Thumbs_Down, Previous video clips from the band and a interview with Jonny and Colin. Described as a ‘one off’ Adam repeated the event in Los Angeles on February 2nd 2012.

( Source : Yelp.com )

A Silly Blog carries a nice review and description of the event Here.

One of the most interesting bits of trivia from the program refers to a In Rainbows Scrapbook mentioned in the Bug Program notes as a ‘proposed but ultimately unreleased DVD ‘scrapbook’ from the In Rainbows period’.

Krzysztof Penderecki, Jonny Greenwood Collaboration Out Now; “Carries a Powerful Impact,” Says @MusicOMH http://bit.ly/zESEPR

RT: @NonsuchRecords: Krzysztof Penderecki, Jonny Greenwood Collaboration Out Now; “Carries a Powerful Impact,” Says @MusicOMH http://bit.ly/zESEPR

Mew’s retweeted this from Nonsuch Records who are responsible for the release of the recent album by Krzysztof Penderecki and Jonny Greenwood. Nonsuch have previously released Jonny’s other classical work including the soundtrack to There Will Be Blood and Norwegian Wood.

The link is to information about the record dated the 13th of March 2012. The day before Mews retweeted it.

The new album featuring works by Krzysztof Penderecki—”Poland’s godfather of the musical avant-garde” (Independent)—paired with those they inspired by Jonny Greenwood is out now on Nonesuch Records. On the album are Penderecki’s Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima and Polymorphia (for 48 strings) and Greenwood’s Popcorn Superhet Receiver and 48 Responses to Polymorphia, all performed by the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra, with Penderecki conducting his pieces and Marek Moś conducting Greenwood’s. “The results are ear-tingling,” says NPR. “What we hear on this album is a meeting of two artistic visionaries connected in a real dialogue.”

(Source: NonSuch )

Yesterday Jonny Greenwood posted to Dead Air Space that Penderecki is coming to London this week to play material from the album live.

Jonny writes:

Penderecki is coming to London this week, with the AUKSO Chamber Orchestra . They’re going to play the music on the recording we’ve just released together.

To hear him conduct Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima and Polymorphia with this wonderful Polish orchestra is a really magical experience, so if you’re in London on Thursday, perhaps you’d like to come along…..

He includes a photo of the orchestra rehearsing and picture of what appears to be his original notation for one of the pieces:

The New York Times is carrying a great feature piece about Jonny titled ‘Radiohead’s Runaway Guitarist’ which you can read here.

NCR was providing a free stream of the album however it’s no longer available, you can order it from Nonsuch for $13.00 for just the MP3 or $14.00 for FLAC or CD+MP3

@ChieftanMews: 1/10: Was/Is this all a w.a.s.t.e. of your/our time? Stay detuned.. .. .. .. .. .␄

This was the last of the #10 series of tweets from Chieftan Mews sent out each Thursday for 10 weeks. On the same day as this tweet Mew’s sent a second message stating that he was ‘free’ (Like you, once again, I am a free fugitive of life.) assuming that the quiz had lead to him escaping from the Ziggurat from where he’d been trapped over the previous months.

w.a.s.t.e stands for We Await Silent Tristenro’s Empire and is the name for Radiohead’s official online store and fanclub since 1992. According to Follow Me Around it is from a 1966 novel written by Thomas Pynchon titled The Crying Of Lot 49.

Wiki gives a brief description of the book as:

The shortest of Pynchon’s novels, it is about a woman, Oedipa Maas, possibly unearthing the centuries-old conflict between two mail distribution companies, Thurn und Taxis and the Trystero (or Tristero). The former actually existed, and was the first firm to distribute postal mail; the latter is Pynchon’s invention. The novel is often classified as a notable example of postmodern fiction.

Time included the novel in its TIME 100 Best English-language Novels from 1923 to 2005

The novel follows Oedipa Maas, a Californian housewife who becomes entangled in a convoluted historical mystery when her ex-lover dies and designates her the co-executor of his estate. The catalyst of Oedipa’s adventure is a set of stamps that may have been used by a secret underground postal delivery service, the Trystero (or Tristero).

According to the historical narrative that Oedipa pieces together during her travels around the San Francisco Bay Area, the Trystero was defeated by Thurn und Taxis – a real postal system – in the 18th century but went underground and continued to exist into Oedipa’s present day, the 1960s. Their mailboxes are disguised as regular waste-bins, often displaying their slogan W.A.S.T.E., an acronym for We Await Silent Tristero’s Empire, and their symbol, a muted post horn.

Amusingly according to a interview with Thom and Jonny in 1995 the band started their own church titled ‘The Holy Church of Waste’ while on tour in the US.

Jonny: (cutting Thom off) No, we’re reverends…..

Thom: (Cutting Jonny off) Oh yeah, we’re reverends…we’re all reverends.

Jonny: We started our own church.

Thom: The Holy Church of Waste.

Jonny: Well, we can legally marry people and bury people in 13 American states, including California.

Thom: So if anybody needs, you know, to get married, we can do it for them now. (to Jonny) How much did it cost us? Twenty dollars?

Jonny: Ten dollars or something. So we are going to conduct a mass community-style wedding at our LA show, that’s tomorrow.

You can read the rest of the interview on Follow Me Around here.

While we do not yet know if this was ‘just a waste of our time’ on November 9 Radiohead announced on Dead Air Space that they would be releasing a Bluray/DVD edition of The King of Limbs – From the Basement with Supercollider ‘added as a bonus track’.

We’d love to hear what answers other people sent to Mew’s ‘quiz’!

Feb 23, 2010:

@ChieftanMews: Come To Florida http://t.co/2WE81HE @jerkyboysjohnny : IMS MENOO : @ghostfacekillah http://t.co/dFDtCMd

Mew’s tweeted this while Radiohead where due to kick off the start of their 2012 World Tour in Miami Florida.

The first part of the tweet is addressed to Johnny Brennan the creator of Jerky Boys and Family Guy.

The link takes you to a youtube video taken from The Jerky Boys 2 that appears to be a prank call asking for ‘Pablo Honey to Please come to Florida’

The Jerky Boys are an American comedy duo from Queens, New York, whose routine consists of prank telephone calls and other related skits. Formed in 1989, The Jerky Boys were made up of childhood friends Johnny Brennan and Kamal Ahmed.[1] After Kamal left the act in 2000, The Jerky Boys continued on as a solo act featuring only Brennan, before going on hiatus after the 2001 release of their final album, The Jerky Tapes. The project was resurrected in 2006 and remains active today.

The calls were made by ringing up unsuspecting recipients, or in response to classified advertisements placed in local New York-based newspapers. Each call was made in character, usually with over the top voices influenced by the duo’s family members.[1]

According to their current record label, Laugh.com, the act has sold over 8,000,000 CDs since their 1993 debut.

(Source: Wikipeida )

These days Pablo Honey is better known as the name of Radiohead’s First Album.

According to FeelNumb.com Pablo Honey was named after this skit as ‘Jonny Greenwood got a bootlegged tape of The Jerky Boys in the early ’90s and he and the band listened to it non-stop. They even sampled a snippet in the song “How Do You?” ‘

The second link is to the videoclip for Daytona 500 by Ghostface Killah. The Videoclip is made of footage from Street Racer a cult Anime tv Series from the 80s.

Ghostface Killah – Daytona 500

RapExclusiveHD gives us the following information about the video:

“Daytona 500″ is the solo debut single by Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ghostface Killah, featuring The Force M.D.s, Raekwon, and Cappadonna from his 1996 solo debut album Ironman. The title is taken from the most important and prestigious race on the NASCAR calendar: Daytona 500. Released unofficially, the song didn’t chart on any charts but is considered a longtime favorite among Wu-Tang fans. The song was later added to his greatest hits album, Shaolin’s Finest.

Ghostface Killah doesn’t have a website but you can check him out here or on Last.FM

Mew’s states that IMS MENOO.. meaning ‘He’s Mental‘ (clearly in a good way) and addresses the tweet to Ghostface Killah’s Twitter Account.

Within 24 Hours he had deleted the tweet along with two others from the same day.

Two of 5 Tweets sent on February 23rd that where deleted within 24 hours. The first tweet is addressed to Phillip Selway and Clive Dreamer who is currently working with Radiohead as a additional drummer for The King of Limbs.

As reported on The King of Limbs Part 2 there is a hidden message in the selection of capital letters.

It is as follows:

B A K B A K

S I S I

It relates to a recent SISI BAKBAK remix of Hold On by SBTRKT

This remix has recently causing some confusion in the press for Sisi BakBak being a possible alias for Thom Yorke.

Consequence Of Sound gives the following info:

SBTRKT will release his new single “Hold On” digitally on February 21st, and as a limited edition 12” in a deluxe lenticular sleeve on May 8th. It comes backed by the instrumental ”Rise to Freedom”, along with a remix of “Hold On” attributed to Sisi BakBak, who (through powers of Sherlock-like deduction) is probably Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.

According to KEXP’s Cheryl Waters, who premiered the track, the remixer is soon playing Seattle’s Key Arena (that’s where Radiohead is playing in April.) Also, as Pitchfork points out, BBC’s Rob da Bank tweeted (via P4k): “listening to the thom yorke mix of @SBTRKT for the 18th time…unbeatable!”” So there you go.

( Source : Check Out SBTRKT Hold On SISI BAKBAK Remix )

As yet there has been no official word to deny or confirm that Thom is Sisi Bakbak

Chieftan Mews has a long history of tweeting messages directly related to the band (even if in a round about fashion). From this we can take the message as confirmation that Sisi Bakbak is indeed Thom Yorke who has a long history of involvement with DJs including work with Modeselektor, UNKLE, DJ Shadow, Flying Lotus, Burial, Four-Tet and MF Doom.

Thom also organised the TKOL RMX 1234567 remix collection of The King of Limbs.

In somewhat-related news Modeselektor will be releasing a special Deluxe Tour edition of Monkeytown on the 16 March 2012 which features a additional bonus track co-written by Thom Yorke. It may be Dull Hull from the B-Side of the limited edition Shipwreck single (which you can listen to here) or it could be something new.

** UPDATE 20-March 2012 : it is Dull Hull, you can read the full tracklisting here **

While the first edition of Modeselektor’s third studio album “Monkeytown” was already far from standard, this new and updated deluxe package offers an even more extensive collectors item.

Released in the middle of the second leg of the album tour, this Deluxe Tour Edition of the album features an entire bonus cd filled with all instrumentals from the album and an additional bonus track co-written by Thom Yorke (Radiohead). The bonus DVD comes with all 3 official videos for the songs “Shipwreck” with Thom Yorke, “Evil Twin” and “Berlin” feat. Miss Platnum as well as extensive live footage. Filmed at the Warehouse Project in Manchester you will find 7 songs from the live show as well as a 20min interview added as additional video bonus material.

Alltogether about 3 hours of Modeselektor entertainement.

( Source: Monkeytown Records )

According to their website the Deluxe Tour Edition is limited to only 3000 copies, you can order it here.

Now for the rest of the tweets!

Pre-tense could be read as a reference to ‘The Present Tense’ a currently unreleased song that made it’s debut at the 2009 Latitude Festival being played solo by Thom Yorke. A fan favourite you can listen to it here.

Whoopie has two meanings, one is to celebrate in a (usually) drunken fashion, the second is to have sex. Considering Thom Yorke’s reaction to people ahem.. ‘making woopie’ to Radiohead it’s more likely to be the former then the latter.

blindfold is a reference to Running Blind the title of Phillip Selway’s recent E.P.

Mew’s had previously retweeted a message from SandbagUK informing of a limited edition release of the E.P. signed by the man himself, It is now sold out but you can still buy Phil’s debut album Familial here.

The second of the two tweets appears to be about computer games.

‘patria’ is a Latin word for ‘Homeland’ or ‘Fatherland’.

February 23rd was the release date for ‘Wargame: European Escalation’ described as ‘a real-time strategy video game developed by Eugen Systems set in the years 1975-1985.’

Wiki gives the following:

It features large maps up to 150 square kilometres in size. It can have up to 100 million scenery objects. Players can command 361 unique units. [3]. Playable factions include the Warsaw Pact which is subdivided into the Soviet Union, Communist Poland, East Germany, and Czechoslovakia. On the other side is NATO, which is subivided into the United States of America, United Kingdom, France and West Germany. Each country has its own arsenal of units, and players can choose various units from the four subfactions of the side they are playing on, unlocking better units through game progression.

Gamespot has a good range of coverage of it Here

While Mew’s seems to be referencing that game in particular it doesn’t actually mean he’s played it. Many websites and gaming platforms such as Steam present advertisements for upcoming games that appear when logging in.

For example is a screenshot of the game advertised in Steam’s main page on the 5th of March.

Screenshot of Wargame: European Escalation advertised on Steam.

Previously on the 3rd of June 2010 Jonny Greenwood posted a Office Chart to Dead Air Space unique in listing a selection of Games instead of music which he addressed to “all the nerds who are marveling, like me, at Red Dead Redemption”

Red Dead Redemption is the title of a game by Rockstar San Diego released exclusively on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on the 21st of May 2010 in the UK. Awarded numerous Game of the Year titles it’s considered to be a modern classic and raised the bar for open world games.

(Source: Wikipedia )

Wiki describes it as:

Set in 1911, during the decline of the American Old West. The game follows John Marston, a former outlaw, while he sets out to hunt down his former gang members. Marston’s wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a bounty hunter. Having no other choice, he sets out to bring his three former gang members to justice.

You can read (or watch) a review of it here.

For the curious the rest of Jonny’s list was:

Braid (various)
Marathon (Mac)
Goldeneye (N64)
Elite (BBC Micro)
Cave Story (various)
Ico (PS2)
Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64)
Zelda Twighlight Princess (Wii)
Half Life 1 and 2 (Mac, PS3)

If Mews were to fall in love, Mews would make you a mix-tape like this for when the trains stop running on time http://tinyurl.com/3m6lfr3 ␄

Jun 29, 2011:

@ChieftanMews: If Mews were to fall in love, Mews would make you a mix-tape like this for when the trains stop running on time http://tinyurl.com/3m6lfr3

In a tender moment Cheftan Mews offers a link to a recent mix-tape from All Tomorrow’s Parties curated in part by Portishead made to advertise the I’ll Be Your Mirror’ music event.

Mew’s claimed on The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth of All Time that “All my love is used up… On me.” and in a DM where he stated “My initials are carved in a tree = CM loves CM.” suggesting that he has indeed fallen in love… with himself.

The final part about the trains appears at first to be a joke, after all when has a major train system ever run on time? The phrase does pop up in a comment posted to a news item on A Tangled Web “a dissenting review of contemporary British & American politics” about Greek protesters joining the worldwide ‘Day of Rage’ protest against capitalism, inequality and the economic crisis. The post was made on the 3rd of June, three weeks before Mew’s comment.

The link itself takes you to All Tomorrow’s Parties where you can stream and download a free mixtape Curated by Portishead & ATP from Soundcloud.

The website also gives the following information about a event taking place from September 30 – October 2nd 2011:

From September 30 to October 2 2011 in Asbury Park, New Jsery, All Tomorrow’s Parties will present the first I’ll Be Your Mirror USA event, which will be curated by the mercurial Portishead (who headline the Saturday and Sunday) and ATP. Acting as sister events to the world famous ATP Festivals which usually take place in holiday resorts, I’ll Be Your Mirror is a new series of artist curated music, film and art events taking place in cities worldwide.

As well live performances from all of the artists in the mixtape below (+ others), the event will also feature DJs, Criterion Cinema, a Laphams Quarterly Literary Stage, an exhibition from Shepard Fairey, Quality Food Stalls and more…

Radiohead teamed up with Clive Dreamer of Portshead in 2011 for their live performances of The King of Limbs.

In 2008 a video was uploaded to Youtube of Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke playing a cover of The Rip backstage at a concert in St. Louis, you can watch it here.

25 years. Jericho. Friday. Woods. Saturday. Living. Project. Phil’s harmonica. Ago. Carrots&sticks. Bluebook. Mobile Devices & Birds Chirp.

Sep 8, 2011:

@ChieftanMews: 25 years. Jericho. Friday. Woods. Saturday. Living. Project. Phil’s harmonica. Ago. Carrots&sticks. Bluebook. Mobile Devices & Birds Chirp.

Unscrambled you could read it as ’25 Years. Ago. (this?) Saturday. (On a) Friday. Jericho (Tavern with) Phil’s harmonica.’ in rather a Cluedo who/where/how style.

2011 marks the 25th anniversary of On a Friday’s first gig at the Jericho Tavern a pub and music venue in Oxford. Jonny Greenwood originally joined the band on harmonica before playing keyboard and ending up as the lead guitarist.

On a Friday is of course the name Radiohead used until 1991 when they signed to EMI.

September 8, 1986 is not a Saturday it’s a Monday, nor is September 8, 2011. This suggests that Radiohead’s first gig must have been on Wednesday September 10th, 1986 however finding any source to confirm has been difficult as most sites only say the band performed in the 2nd half of that year (well except some that insist it was 1987 pft).

The rest of the tweet is more modern.

Carrots&sticks. is of course a idiom for the idea of combining a reward and punishment in order for a certain behaviour.

It appears on a Kid-A era tour poster titled ‘Fear Stalks the Land’ along with the line ‘Mobiles Chirping’ from Idioteque, Abbatoir noises and ‘Our Name is Legion’ a which Mew’s has also tweeted.

(Source: Rockfeedback.com)

it also appears in artwork from the additional hidden art booklet as “CHECKS AND BALANCES CARROTS AND STICKS” in 1st edition Kid-A cds reprinted on a T-shirt as SEX WORK DEATH in 2000 and in Dead Children Playing a picture book by Stanley Donwood & Dr. Tchock (Thom Yorke) featuring artwork from OK Computer though to Hail To the Thief.

(Source: Dead Children Playing)

Bluebook is of course a nod towards Facebook’s logo.

Birds Chirps is another way of saying Birds Tweet ala Twitter.

and Mobile Devices.. all three ways to keep in touch.

Woods relates to Bad Woods and Twisted Woods which are both sets of prints by Stanley Donwood, the first forms part of the artwork for The King of Limbs with the second being the artwork for These Are My Twisted Words.

Bot’s are a name for software that runs a automated set of tasks usually at high speed. Such tasks may be to analyse websites such as the ‘web crawlers’ utilized by search engines like Google, for fraud/crime or to perform some level of basic AI such as ‘Chatbots’ which aim to mimic the experience of talking to a real person.

Later he responds to another fan with “When I cry, lightning strikes. Reality has now become a fantasy. I have proof. Meanwhile. Wham chose life. Farewell and be alert or not.”

The line ‘When I cry, Lighting strikes’ may be a nod towards Lightning Crashes by Live from Throwing Copper, it was released in the UK in 1996.

‘Wham chose life’ refers to the ‘CHOOSE LIFE’ t-shirts worn by WHAM when performing ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go Go’ on BBC’s Top of the Pops in 1984.

Finally each of the Facebook messages is signed off with ‘be alert or not.’ suggesting that Mew’s may, or may not be active again soon.

@inkybrown I was set free by Supercollider. My first line of business was to make sure that those two don’t appear on Late Night on Monday.

Mew’s first re-tweeted then replied to Inkybrown who managed to ask Colin and Phil about Mews after one of the Roseland Ballroom Shows in New York.

Since July 6th Mew’s has stated that he was stuck in the Ziggurat ( www.the-ziggurat.com ) with footage of Supercollider missing from The King of Limbs – Live at the Basement.

It seems Mew’s got his revenge as only Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to perform Give Up The Ghost, the episode was screened on Monday October 3rd in the US.

You can watch the performance here.

“It’s all about the music, Mews.” – Some Rubberneck

@ChieftanMews: “It’s all about the music, Mews.” – Some Rubberneck

Tweeted during the making of The King of Limbs – Live from the Basement Chieftan Mews shares what appears to be a rational for why he was cut from hosting The King of Limbs – Live From the Basement.

He twice changes his Twitter bio to refer to Rubbernecks with “Don’t Be A Rubberneck.” in 2012 and “Will work for Rubbernecks” in 2011.

A slang term Wiki serves a good description:

Rubbernecking describes the act of gawking at something of interest. It is often used to refer to drivers trying to view the carnage resulting from a traffic accident. The term refers to the craning of a person’s neck in order to get a better view.

The phrase first appeared in a post by Thom on Dead Air Space on October 11, 2005.

Rubberneck was a new tune the band was working on during the In Rainbows sessions.

Thom Describes it as thus:

yet another new tune added to the blackboard called Rubbernecks.
at the moment its a demo. when is a demo not a demo? when its in time. whats in time?

It’s possible that Rubbernecks is slang for people who work in the media.
