SUBLIMINAL PROJECTS is pleased to announce Lost Angeles, a solo exhibition of art by British artist Stanley Donwood.

Lost Angeles will feature a new body of work where Donwood turns his poignant perception on the impact of current societal trends and behavior towards Los Angeles. His visual meditation on society envelopes viewers in a beautifully, graphic landscape of impending doom. The fluid black and white scene resonates with honesty and forewarning. True to form, Donwood once again succeeds in giving flawless design to his version of our tragically flawed future.

On display will be an 18-foot apocalyptic panorama of the City of Angels being destroyed by fire, flood and meteor storm. Originally carved into 18 separate panels of linoleum then hand burnished onto Japanese Kozo paper, the never-before-seen, limited edition print was inspired by subject matter similar to Donwood’s 2006 work titled London Views.

Followed up with news that there would be a Atoms for Peace DJ Set at Transmission LA tonight as of 6-10pm. It’s known that both Thom Yorke and Nigel Godrich will be DJing for this event.

While yes the focus of this blog is on the tweets of Chieftan Mew’s we couldn’t let these two tweets from Nigel Godrich go by, in one of the stranger stories to come out of Radiohead’s current tour the show in Kansas City makes the very first by the band to receive a picketing by the Westboro Baptist Church a organisation lead by Fred Phelps that calls Topeka, Kansas home and is infamous for picketing funerals of former military servicemen, schools and other events with homophobic hate messages.

In 2009 the group where blocked from visiting the UK on grounds of inciting hatred. This is probably the reason for the anti-UK placards.

In recent years it seems the church have set their sights on picketing concerts, Last year The Foo Fighters where picketed at the same venue and took to performing a impromptu set on the back of a truck in response.

While in the WBC defense The Foo Fighters had recently released a song titled ‘Hot Buns’ featuring a video of the band as naked homosexual hillbilly’s their reasons for picketing Radiohead is a little.. ‘odd’ comparing Radiohead to a circus monkey and calls them “Freak monkey’s with mediocre tunes.” no.. seriously..

Interestingly they accuse the band of being ‘focused on lightness’ which puts them rather at odds with the overall view in the press of Radiohead being a overly ‘serious’ band. Maybe they took offense to the Lotus Flower videoclip or mistook the title of Creep as ‘Freak’? Either way fans have pointed to the protest as proof that the band have ‘made it’ in America.

A new tweet posted early today in a American timezone and directed at Phillip Selway, Clive Dreamer and King Coffey who is best known for being the drummer from American band The Butthole Surfers.

Radiohead are currently in Austin on tour and set to play Austin Texas tonight, Austin also happens to be the home town of King Coffey.

Merriam-Webster defines the word Depilated as

past participle, past tense of dep·i·late
Verb:
Remove the hair from.

It seems Mew’s is suggesting that King Coffey is a possible look alike to Clive and Phil who both have a identically ‘depilated’ style.

IDKit is identikit, the name of a new Radiohead song debuted in Miami on the first show of the 2012 US Tour.

Amusingly Triple Threat is the name of a game show aired in 1988 and 1991 that appears to be a American adaption of The Generation Game responsible for ‘Life is the name of the game, and I want to play the game with you” quoted by Chieftan Mews on The Most Gigantic Lying Mouth of All Time.

Mew’s tweeted a the following photo taken of the Amnesiac special edition book released in 2001.

He had used what appears to be Microsoft Paint to remove the words RADIOHEAD, Amnesiac with the spray paint tool.
The modification date on the image tells us that it was done at 7:55 AM(GMT) on Monday the 6th of February 2012.

Below where it’s printed Radiohead, Amnesiac there are two date stamps for ’06 FEB 2012′ matches the exact date the message was tweeted. No doubt a co-incidence that the band was still together on the date in question.

This was one of a number of ‘fake’ return/due dates stamped on the book borrowing slip. According to Follow Me Around the day and month was chosen to signify someone’s birthday.

The key word however is found above the photo where ‘REQUESTED/CARACHRESIS’ is written in ink. You can see it here:

Carachresis comes from the greek word ‘κατάχρησις’ included in the tweet. Wiki provides the following definition:

“misapplication of a word, especially in a mixed metaphor” according to the Penguin Dictionary of Literary Terms and Literary Theory. Another meaning is to use an existing word to denote something that has no name in the current language.[1]

Compare malapropism and solecism, which are unintentional violations of the norms, while catachresis may be either deliberate or unintentional.

He once again makes a reference to the Ziggurat (www.the-ziggurat.com) along with ‘Jello Spider’

Catachresis College is the name of a school invented by Stanley Donwood and set to be in ownership of the Amensiac book. The name also appears as part of the Zigguration Tests taken by the band that was awarded to the winners of the Waste Game which are copywrited c. 2002 W.A.S.T.E. Board of Catachresis on the last page of the test.

Catachresis also appears as part of the title of the Autechre song ‘Lentic Catachresis’ from the album Confield released on 30 April 2001 a little under two months before Radiohead released Amnesiac.

Jello is an American brand name for what in the UK is called ‘Jelly’ (and to answer the obvious question ‘Jelly’ in the UK is called Jam or Preserve).

or simply a ‘Catachresis’ description of what the Ziggurat looks like ( A spider made of Jello ).

The use of a American rather then English word could be a reference to what was Radiohead’s upcoming Tour which started in America on the 27th of February 2012.

He signs off the message telling us to “Stay detuned. ?” however the use of a question mark instead of the usual EOT is suggestive that he isn’t sure of what is to come.

Interestingly I managed to quickly tweet Mew’s back with the meaning of Carachresis,
